A leading rail supplier of safety-critical rolling stock equipment needed an independent assessment of its product security approach. The assessment required more than a review of documentation. Complete Cyber needed access to the product architecture and direct engagement with engineering teams to understand both how the products were designed and the processes followed throughout engineering design and build.
The defining constraint was time. An IEC 62443-4-1-aligned product security assessment would normally be a deliberate, weeks-long exercise, but the client required an independent assessment within a much shorter window without compromising the depth and rigour of the work or disrupting its safety-critical engineering activities.
OUTCOMES
Complete Cyber delivered an independent, evidence-based assessment of the supplier’s product security and engineering assurance processes against IEC 62443-4-1.

The assessment gave the supplier a clear view of where its existing safety-driven engineering already supported product security, where its secure development lifecycle needed to develop, and which standards were relevant to its safety-critical rolling stock product line. This provided the independent expert view the organisation had previously been unable to source.
